Dr Aye San is a nephrologist specialising in a broad range of kidney diseases and their related areas. After graduating from the University of Medicine, Mandalay, Myanmar, in 2007, she underwent internship and specialist training in multiple hospitals in Queensland, Royal Melbourne Hospital and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. Dr San holds a dual specialist fellowship in nephrology and adult general medicine.

Her special interests include chronic kidney disease, hypertension, glomerulonephritis and nephrotic syndrome. Other areas of expertise include acute kidney injury, diabetic kidney disease, haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and management of long-term kidney transplant recipients. During her training at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, she also gained additional experience in managing hypertension in pregnancy.

Her research publications have focused on cognitive impairment in advanced kidney disease and cardiovascular risks associated with chronic kidney disease. Dr San believes in achieving the best outcomes in kidney disease by empowering the patients’ involvement in decision-making and focusing on their quality of life.
